Very helpful for me bc top of my foot is injured. Best way for me to follow this video is with no sound. Anyone else?🤷🏻♀️😄
I'm pleased that the lacing helped with your injured foot. Also cool to hear that you didn't need the audio. That's a win for the power of video!
Thank you so much I’m 9 yrs old
You're welcome, I'm happy to have helped. Great that you're learning this so young!
Thanks❤
You're most welcome - enjoy the lacing.
Which is your favourite style of shoelacing my man
Always a tough question! • Favourite decorative method: Lattice Lacing. • Favourite functional method: Over Under Lacing.
#1 thank you for the help! #2 that’s an OG iPhone!

i learned from this video.
That's great to hear - congratulations!
As an autistic child, I never learned how to tie my shoes, and my parents quickly gave up trying to teach me the bunny ears method. I shamefully admitted I'd probably never learn how to. Over 20 years later I found a video showing the Ian knot and could do it after about half an hour of practice. I find it much easier and knots finally make sense to me! Thank you for sharing all this
I'm so pleased to hear of your success learning the “Ian Knot”. Even better that you got the hang of it in such a short time. Congratulations!

I discover your channel. My GF laugh at me because all thius afternoon I was stuck because my Puma have 7 pair of eyelets and I tried to find an aestethic and logic way to solve this problem way more important than quantum physics. So now I can show there is crazier than me :-)))) Thanks, I discover yout website as well (an app would be great out of it) Just one detail: your don't mention a simple trick to solve this problem : "How to Straight Bar Lace Shoes with 5 Eyelets" from Be a Man TV.
I'm glad you enjoyed my channel - and that you found in me a fellow shoelace experimenter! I do have an iOS app, and also had an Android app until Google made an odd decision to remove my "paid" version, leaving me no option but to remove the "free" version. Finally, the 5-eyelet-row variation of "Straight Bar Lacing" is covered in detail on my website (still my primary outlet for shoelace info).
Sir plz give me the lacing style for running shoes plz sir
Most runners stick with basic “Criss Cross Lacing”, while some prefer “Straight Bar Lacing”.
Thanks you sir🎉
You're welcome, enjoy the lacing.
Thank you for this, I had a pair of shoes where the top was longer than normal and I didn’t know how to tie them right, so thank you for this tutorial!
You're most welcome. Great to hear that this lacing worked for your shoes.
Wao!!! thanks its so helpful
You're welcome, I'm pleased to have helped.
this style is usefull in running 5km running?
Probably not. This lacing will feel a little more loose than regular lacing, whereas most people prefer a tighter fit for running. You'll also find that the lace ends will be longer, so they will flop around more and may get underfoot or come loose.
Sir plz give me the lacing style for running shoes plz sir
Most people use basic “Criss Cross Lacing” whereas some people prefer “Straight Bar Lacing”.
im 9 i should know this i didnt think i could but yeah it was actually pretty easy the whole time
Great news - congratulations! I'm pleased that my video made something seemingly difficult end up being easy.
Still don’t know how to tie my shoe😢
Sorry to hear that you're finding the video frustrating. Maybe try my website, which has animated, step-by-step diagrams and instructions.
How would you do this on the Ultraboost Light (4 eyelets)?
It is possible, though kind of pointless on so few eyelets. It would end up with only two “quick-release” rows.
@@ProfShoelace How would I modify your technique for doing this? I tried doing it but I wasn't able to leave 2 rows at the top, so it seemed to me like there is a 5 eyelet minimum.
For four rows of eyelets, only the bottom two rows are straight-laced, as seen in the technique for “Straight Bar Lacing”: www.fieggen.com/shoelace/straightbarlacing.htm The result is only a single quick-release row. As I said, it's kind of pointless.
@@ProfShoelace Alright, thanks for your help!
Thank you
You're welcome, enjoy the lacing.
Thank you so much it was so easy❤❤
You're most welcome, I'm pleased to have made it easy for you.
I must be the luckiest person ever. apparently i've been tying my shoes wrong for nearly 40 years and have never a problem with my knots coming undone.
The Granny Knot *can* hold okay if tied tightly and the laces aren't slippery and you don't move the shoe too vigorously.
This doesn't work
Sorry it doesn't work for you. Not everyone follows my video instructions. Maybe try my website, which has animated, step-by-step diagrams and instructions.
😊
Thanks :-)
This is the BEST tutorial I have found! Thank you!
You're most welcome - I'm pleased that you were able to follow it easily. Enjoy the lacing.
Which is best for loose heel?
Most people use “Lock Lacing”: www.fieggen.com/shoelace/locklacing.htm
This is was my favorite way to lace my sneakers back in high school!
I hope it remains a favorite for certain applications even into adulthood.
Thanks sir 😊
You're welcome, mate.
my shoelaces arent long enough for this??
When you're first learning the “Ian Knot” - or *any* new shoelace knot - it does indeed help to practice using longer shoelaces. Adults and children alike have the same difficulty. When the laces are short, the ends can be accidentally pulled too far so that the loops disappear. But as you gradually improve your technique, you'll be able to handle shorter shoelaces.
Great video learned in less than 5 minutes going to teach the kids thank you
Sub-five-minutes is an excellent time to learn something new - congratulations! Here's hoping your kids learn it fairly easily as well. Nice to know that my knot will be helping two generations of the same family!
Thank you so much! The most straightforward tutorial on an easy method ❤
You're most welcome, I'm pleased that my video made it easy for you to follow. Enjoy the lacing!
Nice. what do you do with running shoes that have the insert on the tongue? because when the laces are straight they don't quite align with the insert's spacing. Do we ignore that tongue insert or just not worry about the alignment and shove the laces in there? I'm assuming these alternative lacing techniques are popular with runners since anyone can develop Tibialis Anterior Tendonitis from the laces being too tight. Apparently it's quite common. Who knew!
I'm guessing by the “insert” on the tongue you're referring to the tongue centering loop. Personally, I almost never use them, partly because it spoils the uniform look of the lacing but also because I rarely suffer from tongue slippage. If you likewise have no crooked tongue issues, by all means leave the loops vacant.
Thankyouu so muchh.... Useful
You're welcome, I'm glad it helped. Enjoy the lacing.
Thank you so much. I was considering getting new shoelaces for my shoes until I tried this knot. Absolute game changer. In fact, I switched to it so thoroughly that I genuinely don't remember how to tie the knot I used to do!
You're welcome! So cool that a simple change in technique made such a difference. Enjoy the knot!
Sometimes you get to that stage in life where you say I'm gonna learn to tie my shoe differently. Well today is that day!😂 👍😎 Got it after a few goes.
Hey, that's awesome - not just that you got it (congratulations!) but also that you made a conscious decision to change a lifelong habit. May your knew knot expertise enhance this next stage in your life.
Thank you so much 😊
You're welcome, enjoy the lacing.
Mf u coulda said sumn about the 7 holes earlier 😂
Sorry you found out late in the piece. I personally avoid shoes with odd numbers of eyelets because they limit my options. Hope you found an alternative.
@@ProfShoelace its alright thank you still, i used the cross on the bottom and bars method
This was to hard fuck you im gonna nuuut
Thanks bro!
You're welcome, mate
Night before school, very helpful
Just in time! I'm pleased that you found it helpful.
I was so stoked when i finally got the hang of it and learned how to do it at a faster pace. I always did the "bunny ear method" because thats what my parents taught me. Since im only twelve i was able to learn it faster than i thought i would, but although at first i was so confused about the whole loop process and kept failing getting the knot tight i eventually got it after like an hour. Thanks alot professor! 😄
You're most welcome, and thanks for sharing your detailed account. The process of learning is always tricky. Glad that you persisted and got it in the end. With practice, it will soon be both faster and tighter.
This is great! sir. I need to learn this. Thank you.
You're most welcome. Good luck with learning the knot.
THANK YOU SO MUCH, because I've been wondering how to do this.
You're welcome!
Would you recommend keeping this lacing after you buy a pair of dress shoes? If not, what would you recommend? Brown leather dress shoe, 5 islets on each side near the top.
I mean 4 islets on each side, not 5.
I definitely recommend this lacing for dress shoes - particularly if the sides come close enough together to hide the underlying zig-zag. Compared to other straight lacing methods like “Straight Bar Lacing”, this method tightens moe evenly without “pinching” the shoe material.
Oh, ok. I'll leave them like this then. Thanks! This lacing technique isn't just historical as you said. New brown leather dress shoes I bought two weeks ago (March 2024) came with this lacing.
Oh, right - interesting to hear that it's still fairly common in shoe shops.
This is perfect! Knot porn.
This really needs POV tutorial. I unxerstand it, but it's just harder to grasp the coordination of hands when the video is not POV. Works for porn, will work for knots. 😅
I agree! In fact, my “POV” tutorial has been available for the past decade: ruclips.net/video/_O-xaJrao1w/видео.html
